The G.A.A. was established in 1886.
1888, the first official Captain was James Delaney from Castlegar Village (This family might have moved to Mirah, Turloughmore after the Land Commission, and a descendant died recently (January, 2021, R.I.P.).
Delaney, represented Castlegar at the 2nd County A.G.M. held in Loughrea. 78 Clubs were represented.
On May the 3rd, 1889, Castlegar entered the County Championship, and were known as the "Skirmishers" and captained by Delaney. Result, unknown.
In 1904, J. Egan was the first native to play for the County.

Trustees, for the Club.
Someone, or many, have to be responible for an Accountable Entity. In this case, a number of People came togehter to purchase a piece of Land, just North of the Roscam Townland Border - the southern limit of Doughiska Townland, which is still obvious by that wide and high, Stone Wall.
Castlegar Parish was much lareger back then - The Churches of The Good Shepherd, Ballybane and Renmore, had yet to be established - and that, the location in Doughiska, was not unreasonable.
Enter, Doughiska.
In May, 1970, 11 Acres of Land was purchased from Merlin Park Quarries for 13,580 Irish Pounds, inclusive of expenses.
Five Club Members (original Trustees) - Mark Heneghan (Club Treasurer), Thomas (John ) Broderick, John Molloy, Patrick Shaughnessy and Willie Cullinane each paid 750 Irish Pounds each towards this. Gifts and Loans from other Parishioners, amounted to 9,000 Pounds.
The G.A.A. gave a Grant of 6,000.
By 1980, the Complex (as it is often known) was built. This is still in use, as part of the Club's Facilities.
